A Gender/Racial Audit of the Special Education EnvironmentVicki McGinley, Lynn Spradlin. Twenty-five graduate students from West Chester University participating in required course, Diversity within the Context of Disability, participated in a Gender/Racial audit of classrooms in the surrounding rural, urban, and suburban communities in the northeast United States. Variables such as physical environment, classroom materials, extra-curricular activities, teacher-student interactions and classroom management were surveyed and analyzed. Results from this survey audit will be presented and implications for further research will be presented.
